Who Are We?
Welcome to the home of the Walleye Wanderers, a group of everyday fishermen who enjoy trips, outings and all things fishing. Our little space here is designed to share some of our experiences, knowledge and generally record moments in time that we may reflect on when a laugh is needed.
As I have been questioned several times, I feel the need to explain the title block above. The phrase “Camp Lotafish-Itchybum” was born on a spring fly-in fishing trip back in 2005 to Hebner Lake in the Nakina, Ontario area. Usually a spring trip, shortly after ice out is a good week for fishing and also a bug free week. Our week back in 2005 was quite the opposite, at least for bugs. We experienced a spell of unseasonably high temperatures and out came the mosquitoes! If you have ever been on a fly-in fishing trip back into a wilderness outpost in the middle of a boreal forest you can probably appreciate what I am saying. If you have not enjoyed the experience, you will have to imagine the number of hunger skeeters that were virtually everywhere. When you couple the mosquito issue with the fact that there is no indoor toilet facilities…well that is how the “Itchybum” portion of the name was born.
As for the “Lotafish” portion of the name, that was easy to come up with as we did catch a ridiculous amount of fish on that trip.
I hope that sufficiently explains the name of our little piece of the web.
Extraordinary Experiences
The Wanderers travel at least once a year to Northern Ontario for a fly-in fishing trip, unwinding, unplugging and enjoying nature, some laughs and of course some great fishing.
Life is short, make memories while you can!
